Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • Authors confirm that they are the authors of the submitting article, which is under is under consideration to be published (print and online) in journal Slovenski jezik / Slovene Linguistic Studies by Založba ZRC, ZRC SAZU.
  • All authors have seen and approved the paper being submitted.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor it is under consideration in another journal (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • Upon publishing an article in a journal the authors agree to license non-exclusive copyrights to ZRC SAZU (Založba ZRC): they retain the copyright in the scope that enables them to continue to use their work, even by publishing it in one of the personal or institutional repositories before the publication of the article in the journal.
  • Authors consent to publication of their works under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0).
  • Permission has been obtained for the use (in printed and electronic format) of copyrighted material from other sources, including online sources. Restrictions on the transfer of copyright on this material will be clearly indicated.
  • All the necessary permits to work with people have been obtained in the research related to the article (in accordance with the applicable laws and institutional guidelines and approved by the relevant institutions).
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal section.
  • The article includes a Research Data Statement, and the research data are also properly cited in the list of sources and references.

Author Guidelines

Manuscripts should be sent via e-mail to: grant_lundberg@byu.edu or dusa.race@zrc-sazu.si.

The journal accepts original unpublished scientific and technical articles in the field of Slovene linguistics, which are not under review for any other publication. The journal also accepts monograph reviews, collections and other linguistic works on the Slovene language.

Peer Review Process

Articles go through a double-blind review process. Authors are informed of review decisions within 8 weeks. Reviews of scientific monographs, reflections, and similar contributions are prepared in agreement with the editors. In the case of one negative review, a third reviewer is appointed, which may extend the review period. For publication, the contribution must receive at least two positive reviews, and before publication the author must revise it in line with the comments and recommendations provided in the reviews. Authors are expected to return corrections within 7 working days.

Language

Articles should be written in Slovene or English. By agreement, they may also be written in another language.

The title, abstract with keywords, and summary should be provided in Slovene and English. If the article is not in Slovene or English, the title, abstract, and summary must be provided in three languages: the language of the article, Slovene, and English.

Lenght

Articles should not exceed 30,000 characters including spaces (i.e. one author’s sheet). Reviews should not exceed 20,000 characters including spaces.

Format and contents of submitted article

The article should be submitted in two formats: .pdf and .docx (Microsoft Word) or .odt (OpenOffice).

The file containing the contents of the ARTICLE must include (in the following order):

  • author’s name
  • ORCID (in the form https://orcid.org/...)
  • affiliation (department, institution/university, country) in Slovene and English
  • mailing address for the author’s copy
  • author’s email address
  • title of the contribution in Slovene and English (this also applies to articles in other languages)
  • abstract with keywords (up to 5) in Slovene and English. The two abstracts together with the keywords should not exceed 1,500 characters.
    If the article is not in Slovene or English, the abstract with keywords must be provided in the language of the contribution, Slovene, and English.
  • main text of the article
  • Research Data Statement
  • bibliography
  • summary in Slovene and English (if the article is not in Slovene or English, the summary with keywords must be provided in the language of the contribution, Slovene, and English)

The file containing the contents of the REVIEW must include (in the following order):

  • name of the review author
  • ORCID (in the form https://orcid.org/...)
  • affiliation (department, institution/university, country) in Slovene and English
  • mailing address for the author’s copy
  • review author’s email address
  • title of the review in Slovene and English (this also applies to articles in other languages)
  • bibliographic reference of the work under review
  • text of the review
  • (bibliography)

Technical formatting

Font: Times New Roman or ZRCola.
If any other font is used (e.g. Cambria Math), the author should inform the editor.

Paragraphs should not be separated by a blank line.

Quotations longer than 3 lines should be set off as separate paragraphs and in a smaller font. Omissions in quotations should be indicated by three dots in square brackets […].

Notes should be footnotes.

Alignment: The text should be justified. The bibliography should be left-aligned with hanging indent.

Titles of standalone publications, books, and periodicals should be in italics (both in the text and in the bibliography).

Web links should be given in angle brackets both in the text and in the bibliography: <http://www. ...>.

Illustrative material (tables, figures, etc.):

Tables, graphs, images, photographs, maps, etc. should be captioned as follows:

Table 1: Title of Table 1

Illustrative material (except for tables and graphs created in Word) should be submitted in separate files, and the author should indicate in the text where it belongs (e.g. [Figure 1]). Images should be of good quality and in one of the following formats: .jpg, .png, .svg.

If the material is protected by copyright or obtained from other sources (including online sources), the author must obtain permission to use it or cite the source appropriately.

Transliteration from non-Latin scripts

Bibliographic units written in a non-Latin script must be transliterated into the Latin alphabet using Slovene/English transliteration conventions. The transliterated parts should be placed in square brackets [].

If the entire article is written in a non-Latin script, the author must also provide a transliteration of their first name, surname, and the title (and subtitle) of the article.

Bibliography

The bibliography should be arranged alphabetically according to the first letter of the surname of the first listed author, or according to the title if the author is unknown.

All authors (or co-authors) of the cited work should be listed. If there are more than 10 authors, the first 5 authors should be listed.

If several works by the same author are cited, they should be listed by year of publication (earlier works first, followed by later ones).

If an author has several works in the same year, lowercase letters of the Slovene alphabet should be added to the year, e.g. 2017a, 2017b.

Where available, persistent identifiers should be included in the bibliographic data (DOI, Handle, URN, etc. in full form, e.g. https://doi.org/...).

When citing URLs that are not persistent identifiers, the author should also include the date of access.

The bibliography must also include references to all research data used.
