In this article the author rejects the more and more frequent attempts to impose dialectal forms for geographical names which have already been standardized. Presented here are the principles ofstandardization and the current practice in this field. In principle, the author argues that in the process of standardization the older dialectal features should be more thoroughly considered. At the same time he questions the strictly academic formation of names denoting inhabitants.Downloads
