Abstract

The paper brings a detailed description ofVarro 's theory on the analogy as a specific type of proportion, i.e. a proportion that is in regular proportion to another proportion (ratio pro portione). The principle of usage (consuetudo, usus) is shown as the governing principle of Varro's theory and thus his view on language policy is outlined.
