In 1974, the Polish linguist Zdzisław Stieber published an article in which he arrived at the conclusion that in peripheral areas the number of archaisms is more or less equal to innovations. However, until his death in 1980, he dared not contradict Matteo Bartoli’s principle. This article presents arguments to show that Bartoli’s “norm” is false.Downloads
