This article presents the process of forming East Slavic toponyms with the base ‑sad‑ (e.g., Сад, Садок, Сады, Садки, Новосады, Новосадки, Садовка, Самосадка, Садовая, Садовое). Concrete semantic motivation is established by taking into account special features of the socioeconomic development of individual historically formed areas. The relative chronology of toponym formation is defined, and the area of their distribution is presented and discussed. The article includes a schematic map.Downloads
