Der miles torquatus Aurelius Iovinus

Abstract

Aurelius Iovinus, a veteran of the legion XIII Gemina, is one of the fevv epigraphically attested milites torauati. This inscription (CIL III 3844), dated to the mid of the 3rd century A. D, was studied in detail by the author. The expression miles torquatus denotes a soldier of the rank of the principales vvho vvas avvarded a torques for his personal merits. No specific military appointment is recorded on the inscription.
