Neolithic art from Lepenski Vir to Vinca
Abstract
When discussing the prehistorical art, the narrating values in the plastic art, the practical ones in the architecture are being stressed and therefore the author is trying to find the message in the contents of the art from Lepenski vir. Through the analysis of some important archaeological data the author is trying to find in architecture the origin of a basic type of building, the organization of space and the relation between the objects of the whole site. In the sculpture he is trying to find some conditions for the shaping of the volume, rule of ornament and relation towards space and functions in it. In practical objects he is trying to find presence of art. Through this analysis the author is comming to the conclusion, that Lepenski vir presents just the cult place of the Danube people. This starts with the phaze of Proto-Lepenski vir, as an extraordinary position of a skeleton explains the origin of their spiritual and physical world and it ends with the phase of Lepenski vir II, when all these values went out of date. This art is the reflexion of society’s will, expressed symbolically.
