Poznorimski depo z Rudne pri Rudnici
Abstract
In 1986 a hoard was diseovered on the hill-fort of Rudna near Rudnica; it was damaged by the construction of a forest track. The iron finds preserved (a long blade, a key, a bolt etc.), ceramic and glass fragments and eight coins of Valentinianus and Valens exhibit a very rare combination of objeets. The long iron blade, defined by rare analogies from other sites, as a tool for splitting wood, is of special importance. Other scanty and sporadic finds show that the prehistoric hill-fort was reused in the Late Roman period as a refuge. It belongs to the group of sites, on vvhich only natural terrain and prehistoric ramparts were used for defense. The discovery of the damaged hoard. which must have been buried in the late 4"' century A. D., contributes to a more accurate delimitation of the initial phases of the use of hill fortifications.
