Situla s prikazom pomorske bitke iz Nezakcija
Abstract
One of the finds from the great tomb in the groundwork of Temple B at Nesactium is a situla adorned with incised and hammered scenes. The decoration consists of some novel elements, i.e. stylized running horses, a naked ploughman with a conical hat, a rare representation of a hunting archer, a high conical helmet with a pair of horns, and the central scene of a sea battle covering the width of the first two horizontal friezes. The warriors and arms represented are described, as well as the shape and details of the ship. Comparing the iconography with other situla-type monuments known so far and considering some characteristics of the ship, the situla is dated around 500 B.C.
