Amphorae from the forum of Emona
Abstract
The amphora finds vvhich are discussed bellow and were excavated in the forum of Emona - vvith the exception of some late Republican pieces - represent early Imperial types. Wine vvas transported from various parts of the Mediterranean (Italy, Spain and the Aegean), olive-oil from South Italy, Istrian peninsula, North Africa, and fish sauces from Spain. The Istrian Dressel 6B amphorae vvere often stamped by vvell-knovvn people, such as senators C. Laecanius Bassus, T. Statilius T.F. Taurus Sisenna and Calvia Crispinilla.
