La rappresentazione del dio fluviale Acheloo in area Slovena
Abstract
The author examines three representations of the god Acheloiis in Slovenia: a limestone sculpture of the head of the god (probably the work of a foreign sculptor), currently located in the Municipal Museum of Ljubljana and dated to the period of Nero's reign, as well as two marble friezes f r om a local stonecutter's workshop dated to the period of Trajan's reign and currently located in the Provincial Museum in Celje. The representation of Acheloiis disseminated to various parts of the Roman Empire from Italy via the militia and through the various currents of trade. Acheloiis even dominated over the domestic aquatic deities in some places, despite that the governmental religious policy reflected by each ruler was not particularly influential.
