The Conservation and Restoration of a Roman Sword with a Wooden Sheath Found in the Ljubljanica River
Abstract
The conservation and restoration of a Roman sword with a wooden scabbard are described. The work was undertaken at the Conservation Department of the National Museum of Slovenia. Using conservation methods, we stabilized the sword, preserved its shape, and protected it from further decay. We also discovered certain details enabling better understanding of the production of sword scabbards.
