About the Journal

Focus and Scope

Arheološki vestnik is a Slovenian archaeological journal with an interdisciplinary and international character. It provides a forum for discussion on archaeological topics and issues of related disciplines (i. e. ancient Greek and Roman history, epigraphy, numismatics, anthropology, archaeozoology, archaeobotany, archaeoastronomy, palaeoenvironment). Geographically is focused on the regions of eastern Alps, northern Adriatic, Pannonia and western Balkan, and chronologically on timespan from prehistory to the end of th Middle Ages. The journal is open to discussions and theoretical contributions. It also publish thematic sets from scientific conferences and meetings.

Arheološki vestnik is edited and issued by Institute of Archaeology and published by Založba ZRC (co-publisher SAZU).

Arheološki vestnik is indexed and listed in: AHCI (Arts and Humanities Citation Index), EBSCOERIH (European Reference Index for the Humanities), Scopus, ANVUR (Agenzia nazionale di valutazione del sistema universitario e della ricerca).

Publication Frequency

One issue of the journal annually is published, usually in May.

History of a Journal

The journal has been published since 1950 and was founded by the Section of Archaeology at the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SAZU); the section was transformed in 1972 into the Institute of Archaeology SAZU, which was subsequently renamed into the Institute of Archaeology ZRC SAZU in 1981. Until 1991, the publisher of the journal was Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts, which later became a co-publisher together with the Institute of Archaeology ZRC SAZU, and with Založba ZRC since 2002.

The original name of the journal was Arheološki vestnik/Acta archaeologica, its second name (Acta archaeologica) has been abolished in 1991. The journal is published once a year in hard copy and since 2004 also online. All issues are accessible online since 2017.
