Über den Zusammenhang von musikalischer Autonomie und gesellschaftlicher Funktion

Abstract

“Autonomy” does not mean “autarchy”. Autonomy does not begin where social function ends. In the theories of Roman Ingarden and of the French philosopher Alain the interrelationship of musical autonomy and social function becomes the inner principle of music itself. To reflect upon these dialectics that keep music going is of the essence particularly in times when musical autonomy is under general suspicion.
