Nekatere skladbe, ki jih je François- Joseph Fétis vključil v svoje zgodovinske koncerte, so danes znane kot »zgodovinski ponaredki«, ki jih je komponiral sam in jih pripisal Emiliu de’ Cavalieriju, Heinrichu Schützu, Alessandru Stradelli in drugim. V svoji Univerzalni biografiji glasbenikov je v smislu potegavščine za svojega izmišljenega skladatelja Jeana Strobacha ustvaril celo novo geslo. Pričujoča razprava sledi zgodovinskim glasbenim ponaredkom od Fétisa do Winfrieda Michela in ugotavlja, da so bili odkriti predvsem zato, ker so tako kot drugi kulturni artefakti sčasoma zastareli.
