Abstract

Based on evidence from some major historical Indo-European languages (Vedic and Ancient Greek), a proterokinetic accent pattern is usually reconstructed for the singular of the neuter s-stem noun *kreH2-es- (Schindler 1975). The pattern seen in Proto Slavic *kr ‘blood’ and its Old Irish cognate crú ‘blood’ is used as additional evidence to support this assumption.
