Author Guidelines

Acta historiae artis Slovenica is a scholarly journal, which publishes scientific papers on art history and art theory, as well as papers dealing with more general cultural topics related to visual art and architecture. It aims to contribute to a better understanding of Western art, particularly in relation to Slovenia, Southern and Central Europe.

Submissions of approximately 45.000 characters with spaces (longer papers might be included based on the positive opinion of the Editorial Board), should be uploaded as a Word or Open Office file (font size 12 pt, without formatting, application of styles, page breaks etc.)

Alongside body text, the submissions must also include:
• author's contact details (name, surname, address/affiliation, email)
• summary (max. 3000 characters with spaces)
• abstract (max. 1000 characters with spaces) up to 10 keywords
• bibliography
• list of image captions.

Images should be submitted as separate files (.tiff or .jpeg format, minimal resolution 300 dpi).

Papers in Slovenian, English, German, Italian, Croatian, Serbian and French are accepted. Proofreading in all languages is provided by the Editorial board.

Citation Guide

Sources should be cited following the Chicago Manual of Style (17th Edition) guidelines, using the notes and bibligraphy style.

Peer Review Process

After receiving the text, the editorial board considers whether the text corresponds the journal's publication criteria. All the articles meeting the basic criteria, undergo double blind peer-review. Two positive reviews are required for publication.

The reviewing process normally takes from two to three months, after which the author makes the required amendments and corrections of the text. The editor of the issue reserves the right to suggest amendments and technical improvements.

After the typesetting has been made, only smaller technical changes are possible.

Open Access and Archiving Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to the full-text of articles at no cost on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. There is no Article Processing Fee charged to authors.

Digital copies of the journal are stored by the repository of ZRC SAZU and the digital department of Slovenian national library NUK, dLib.

Authors who publish with this journal agree to the following terms:

Authors confirm that they are the authors of the submitting article, which will be published (print and online) in journal Acta historiae artis Slovenica by Založba ZRC, ZRC SAZU. Author’s name will be evident in the article in journal. All decisions regarding layout and distribution of the work are in hands of ZRC SAZU.

Authors guarantee that the work is their own original creation and does not infringe any statutory or common-law copyright or any proprietary right of any third party. In case of claims by third parties, authors commit their self to defend the interests of the publisher, and shall cover any potential costs.

Authors retain all copyright to the work published in this publication. The author licences to ZRC SAZU the right to publish, reproduce and distribute the article in ZRC SAZU's journal. Authors consent that ZRC SAZU is accorded the credit  of the original publisher in case of reuse of the article, and to make the article available to the public under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0). Articles from Volume 25 No.1 (2020) to Volume 28 No. 2 (2023) are licensed under CC BY-NC-ND 4.0. Users can access and use all journal archives and individual articles published in them under the terms and conditions of this licenses. This does not apply to third-party materials published in the articles.

Authors are able to enter into separate, additional contractual arrangements for the non-exclusive distribution of the journal's published version of the work (e.g., post it to an institutional repository or publish it in a book), providing they acknowledge the initial publication was made in this journal.

Authors are permitted and encouraged to post their work online (e.g., in institutional repositories or on their website) prior to and during the submission process, as it can lead to productive exchanges, as well as earlier and greater citation of published work.
