The article analyses the periodization of Polish arthistorical research from 1945 to the 1980s. It deals with its areas and objects, agents and institutions, as well as with the – around the year 1950 – newly defined responsibilities of art history. In this context, it tackles the problem, to what extent the Polish Baroque research during this time can be called ‘Marxist’.
