Abstract

After arriving in Argentina during the period between the two world wars and after World War Two, Slovene emigrants, unless they were highly sought-after skilled craftsmen, technicians or had a university education, were forced to take any job they were offered and start on the lowest rung of the social ladder. To prevent their children from having to start their careers in the same way that they had had to, they strove for, and continue to strive for, their professional education. These efforts have been highly successful. Among the postwar political emigrants alone, more than 700 people graduated from university over a period of 48 years, after arriving in Argentina.
