»The Popovich Brothers« : Tamburitza in the life of Serbian community in Chicago
Abstract
»Bratje Popović« (The Popović Brothers) is one of the oldest tambour orchestras in the U.S.A. It was founded in 1929 in Colorado. The author shows the historical background of the orchestra, and the social and cultural significance of the tambour as an ethnic symbol. She points out the meaning of the tambour in preserving and presenting Serbian culture and ethnicity in the U.S.A.
