AESTHETICS: BETWEEN NOTION AND CONCEPT

Authors

Abstract

Aesthetics, which can be defined as philosophy of beauty, as philosophy of art or as metacriticism, is analysed in its relationship to sciences and to philosophy. The author concludes that aesthetics is destined to pertain someplace between both and to use unscientific notions and scientific concepts. Aesthetics can use scientific methods of argumentation, but not its methods of verification. The author defines aesthetics as a part of philosophy of culture, for in such a way aesthetics legitimately deals with art only and must take into consideration that art always passes through the filter of socio-historical fabric.
