What is the relationship between matrix and chora, between body within body, between body and space? This relation is established in the paper through home, home as a space of hospitality, a space that unconditionally welcomes- at least, in the Western philosophical tradition. Derrida points out that etymologically the term “hospitality” is related to the notion of “hostility” since the root of the former, hospes is allied to an earlier root of the latter, hostis, which interestingly meant both “stranger” and “enemy.” Thus hospitality, as in hostilis, stranger/enemy + potes, “(having) power,” came eventually to mean the power the host had over the stranger/enemy.Downloads
