Povzetek

Razprava na podlagi neobičajnega besedilnega vira iz evropske renesanse osvetljuje večplastna razmerja med vzhodnim (pravoslavnim) in zahodnim (rimskim) pogledom na krščansko ikonografijo. Povod za raziskavo je besedilo Sv. Maksima Grka, atoškega meniha in učenega misleca, ki je v sredini 16. stoletja premišljeval o pomenu ikonografskega termina pietas. S svojo osebno eksegezo je omogočil nov razmislek o motivu pietas, ki se v njegovi interpretaciji – ob navezavi na liturgično vizijo papeža Gregorja Velikega – kaže kot enigmatično opredeljen in tokrat neposredno povezan z ikonografijo Božjega Sina. Z jasnim odstopanjem od uveljavljenih kulturnih in umetnostnozgodovinskih koncepcij je odprl globljo refleksijo temeljnih vprašanj krščanske ikonografije. Interdisciplinarna (filološko-literarno-teološka) rekonstrukcija izvirnega besedila ponuja vpogled v zgodovinske, kulturne in politične pogoje, ki so oblikovali ne le dve različni umetnostnozgodovinski tradiciji, temveč tudi več različnih smeri kulturnozgodovinske recepcije. Z vpogledom v zgodovinski razvoj »ikonografskega slovarja« (»jezik podob«) razprava obravnava različne vzhodne in zahodne kulturno-teološke tradicije, ki so vplivale na različna razumevanja krščanske upodobitvene umetnosti.
