/Abstract
In that year there were five exceptionally high waters reached by the river Poljanska Sora. The first was during the winter (January 1st), the second in June (the 13th), and three were during the autumn: on October 10th and 14th, and on November 14th. The latter, which was the highest, reached the height of 299 cm above the average water level at the water gage station Suha. The exceptionally high waters, and the inundations connected with them, take place after the precipitations of 100 mm or more had fallen during a short space of time. The river Poljanska Sora has a markedly torrential character; for that reason considerable damages are caused by the catastrophic inundations.
