Povzetek

Uvodni članek razmišlja o razvoju zgodovine živali in o njeni odsotnosti v sicer zelo živahnem raziskovanju habsburške zgodovine. Poudarja potrebo po vključevanju nečloveških živali v zgodovinske narative, zlasti v dolgem 19. stoletju – obdobju globokih sprememb v odnosih med ljudmi in živalmi, ki jih je poganjal kapitalizem ter njegov vpliv na okolje. To obdobje je prineslo premike v živinoreji, znanstvenih odkritjih, razumevanju biodiverzitete, gojenju hišnih ljubljenčkov, razvoju živalskih vrtov ter vzponu gibanj za dobrobit živali, če naštejemo le nekatere.
