Abstract

Yuri Ivanovich Venelin (1802–1839) was outstanding historian, philologist, folklorist and ethnographer. He was also the founder of the Slavic studies, and wrote the first program of teaching Slavic studies for the universities in Europe. He collected the anthology of ancient Slavic manuscripts (Walachian and Bulgarian), and published the first Grammar book of Bulgarian language as well as the first book about the history of Bulgarians.
