Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
  • Authors confirm that they are the authors of the submitting article, which is under is under consideration to be published (print and online) in journal Studia Mythologica Slavica by Založba ZRC, ZRC SAZU.
  • All authors have seen and approved the paper being submitted.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor it is under consideration in another journal (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • Upon publishing an article in a journal the authors agree to license non-exclusive copyrights to ZRC SAZU (Založba ZRC): they retain the copyright in the scope that enables them to continue to use their work, even by publishing it in one of the personal or institutional repositories before the publication of the article in the journal.
  • Authors consent to publication of their works under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0).
  • Permission has been obtained for the use (in printed and electronic format) of copyrighted material from other sources, including online sources. Restrictions on the transfer of copyright on this material will be clearly indicated.
  • All the necessary permits to work with people have been obtained in the research related to the article (in accordance with the applicable laws and institutional guidelines and approved by the relevant institutions).
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal section.

Author Guidelines

Author Guidelines

Articles should be sent to the editors in final version in a Word document, preferably in Rich Text Format (RTF) by e-mail. A print-out should also be sent to the both editors’ address. Only original and new articles will be accepted for publication. The text should be plain and unformatted, with single line spacing, only bold and italic formatting is allowed. The entire text should be written in lowercase (except for uppercase initial letters, of course) without unnecessary abbreviations and contractions. Footnotes should be used rather than endnotes. Articles can be submitted in English, German, Italian, French, Slovenian, Croatian, Serbian or Russian languages.

Article components

The articles published in the scientific journal Studia Mythologica Slavica must contain the following elements:

  • Title of the article in English and in the language of the article;
  • author’s first and last names;
  • author’s education (for example, Ph. D., M. Sc.) and title (for example: Associate professor, Research Advisor);
  • author’s mail address (for example: University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Arts, Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology, Aškerčeva cesta 2, SI–1000 Ljubljana) – the hierarchy is from larger to smaller: institution/university – faculty –department;
  • author’s e-mail address;s
  • author's ORCID Number;
  • abstract in English: up to 800 characters including spaces;
  • up to eight key words;
  • article in English, German, Italian, French, Slovenian, Croatian, Serbian or Russian languages (preferably up to 45.000 characters including spaces);
  • summary in English language; or in case the article is written in English: in one of the  other languages appropriate for SMS (up to 5.000 characters including spaces).

Quoting

When quoting from source material, authors should state the author’s last name, the year, and the page, for example (Kuret 1989: 115–120). If the source material has more than three authors only the first one should be listed (Melik et al. 1956). Web references/links with no authors should be quoted in Footnote. Longer quotations should be separated from the main text and in italics without quotation marks. Shorter quotations should not be separated, but set within the quotation marks.

The references' units should be listed according to the alphabetical order of the authors' second names. If there are more units from the same author in the same year, letters should be added to the citation (for example 1999a and 1999b).

The Digital object identifier (DOI) has to be included to the quotes if available. For more details please visit webpage of the Crossref company (www.crossref.org; http://www.crossref.org/guestquery; http://dx.doi.org/).

Tables and figures

Authors should submit photographs and other graphic materials in a form suitable for scanning and printing or in digital raster form with a resolution of 300 dpi, preferably in TIF or JPG format in the printing size. All tables and illustrative material in the article should be numbered uniformly (for example: Fig. 1, Fig. 2), and have their own titles. Their appropriate place in the article should be marked.

Peer Review Process

All articles are examinated by one of the editors upon receipt. Afterwards the authors are usually asked to correct or change the article. After the articles have been corrected they are sent to two anonymous reviewers. The reviewers receive an article without the author’s name, and the author receives the review(s) without the reviewer’s names. If the reviews do not require the article to be corrected or augmented, the review will not be sent to the author. If the size of the text fails to comply with the provisions for publication, the author shall allow the text to be appropriately modified according to the judgment of the publisher. The article may be rejected for publication by the reviewers or by the editors.

Open Access and Archiving Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to the full-text of articles at no cost on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. There is no Article Processing Fee charged to authors.

Digital copies of the journal are stored by the repository of ZRC SAZU and the digital department of Slovenian national library NUK, dLib.

Authors who publish with this journal agree to the following terms:

Authors confirm that they are the authors of the submitting article, which will be published (print and online) in journal Studia Mythologica Slavica by Založba ZRC, ZRC SAZU. Author’s name will be evident in the article in journal. All decisions regarding layout and distribution of the work are in hands of ZRC SAZU.

Authors guarantee that the work is their own original creation and does not infringe any statutory or common-law copyright or any proprietary right of any third party. In case of claims by third parties, authors commit their self to defend the interests of the publisher, and shall cover any potential costs.

Authors retain all copyright to the work published in this publication. The author licences to ZRC SAZU the right to publish, reproduce and distribute the article in ZRC SAZU's journal. Authors consent that ZRC SAZU is accorded the credit  of the original publisher in case of reuse of the article, and to make the article available to the public under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0). Users can access and use all journal archives and individual articles published in them under the terms and conditions of this license. This does not apply to third-party materials published in the articles.

Authors are able to enter into separate, additional contractual arrangements for the non-exclusive distribution of the journal's published version of the work (e.g., post it to an institutional repository or publish it in a book), providing they acknowledge the initial publication was made in this journal.

Authors are permitted and encouraged to post their work online (e.g., in institutional repositories or on their website) prior to and during the submission process, as it can lead to productive exchanges, as well as earlier and greater citation of published work.
