Abstract

The author discusses a marble torso from Carinthia (Austria), which does not fare as either Christian nor Celtic, nor Roman nor German. Nevertheless, Slavic oral tradition are indeed able to classify and explain it. This raises the issue of whether the so far apparent absence of Slavic idols between the Havela and the Adriatic is more the result of the type of Christianization – determined by the circumstances of the sources, than it is of the habits of those Slavs living there.
