Abstract

The article explores the ways in which the memory of Kresnik, a Slovenian mythic hero who defeated the dragon, has been embedded in the countryside around the Vurberk castle in the area of Lower Styria, and the extent of the folk tradition connected with it. An analysis of related toponyms was an important criterion of this research. Ascertaining that the subject in question reflects in the periphery, where the author also discovered certain parallels, all of which opens up new possibilities for further research of the myth about Kresnik.
