Sodobni kaidan: japonsko pripovedništvo grozljivk kot popularna kultura

Članek raziskuje zgodovino in sodobni razvoj japonske tradicije pripovedovanja grozljivih zgodb, imenovanih kaidan. Predstavi zgodovino te tradicije pripovedništva od obdobja množične priljubljenosti v obdobju Edo, prek skepticizma, ki je prežemal družbeno klimo v obdobju Meiji, do 20. stoletja, ko je uvedba filma in televizije omogočila, da se je žanr grozljivk razvil v različnih medijih. Devetdeseta leta so obravnavana kot posebej prelomno obdobje, v katerem je kaidan vstopil v popularno kulturo skozi J-Horror, televizijske oddaje ter specializirane knjige in revije, ki so bralce nagovarjale, naj pripovedi doživijo neposredno z obiskovanjem strašljivih lokacij. Ob tej bogati medijski krajini je tudi klasično pripovedništvo doživelo preporod v obliki tekmovanj, nastopov v živo in tematskih barov, ki gostijo kaidan dogodke. Avtor raziskuje te fenomene prek analize medijev, terenskih opazovanj in intervjujev.
