Keywords:
Porphyry, Aristotle, Boethius, Introduction, categories, genus, species, difference, property, accidentAbstract
The article tackles some of the main themes concerning the purpose and nature of Porphyry’s Introduction, especially the dilemma about his intention to write an introductory text to Aristotle’s Categories. On the basis of the absence of evidence for distinguishing between the ontological and logical frame of the treatise it is demonstrated that Porphyry’s ambition was probably to have a text on five linguistic items only.Downloads
